Good Evening!
As a long term AD&D player and very occasional Dungeon Master, I have undertaken the construction of a game world, that for the sake of simplicity is called - The Maze. As that name has already been taken in this particular system, I settled on Shadow_Maze as my next best alternative. Perhaps I will rename my construct Shadow Maze in sympathy.
World making has been a hobby of mine since being introduced to Advanced Dungeons and Dragons a large number of years ago, and several fantasy universes of mine have lived and died in that time. My latest creation is the distillation of all that went before, and given the many years it has now been under construction, will likely be my largest, if not necessarily last effort in the area.
I have used world building as both private social commentary and as a sort of pre-electronic blog, or more accurately as a form of therapeutic diary. No one has actually entered this world, you must understand, so it exists at the moment more of a conceptual piece than a viable D&D game world. Currently standing in at a slim 83,000 words, it is both fairly detailed and loosely sketched at the same time.
The Maze also exists as an answer to my outstanding issues with the official D&D game rules, and more often as a response to the thoughts and ideas expressed through the rules and the official game worlds they spawn. I will point out that my world is built expressly as an AD&D universe, not a generic fantasy space. More often than not, my universe attempts to account for game rule and game play activities as if they were actually the way things work in the player characters' ‘real’ life.
I’m not sure how I will use this Journal. There is the option of describing the Maze itself as if from an insider’s point of view, or simply discuss things as a DM. I may try it both ways, with commentary by my intrepid Maze Master on the scene showing up from time to time interspersed between my opinions on various fantasy gaming issues.
Take care!
